Volunteer with South Belfast Foodbank

Volunteers are the life blood of foodbanks. Your skills could be just what we need.

Volunteers are the driving force behind foodbanks. There are thousands of volunteers across the UK, helping The Trussell Trust Foodbank Network get emergency food to people in crisis. We want you to enjoy volunteering and there are lots of ways to get involved. Whatever role you choose, you will make a real difference to the life of someone in crisis.

(Updated July 3rd 2025) OUR MAIN VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT THE MOMENT ARE BELOW:

In order of Priority:

1. Saturday AM Replenishment Team (11am-13:30)

A fantastic opportunity for anyone who has Saturdays free. We are looking to recruit at least 2 new volunteers to our young and dynamic Sat AM Replen Team. You’ll be part of a large team of around 7 other younger mid-20s and mid-30s team. Your main task will be to fulfil the food distribution replenishment request, moving between 1 – 2 tonnes of food stock from our warehouse to our food distribution point. You’ll collect the food from the warehouse, weigh it out, fill the foodbank van, drive the food to our distribution centre, and then leave the food by the shelves ready for the next team.

You’d have to be very comfortable with heavy lifting and manual handling.

11am on Saturdays is a perfect time to start, as you still get to have a lie in, and you’d be finished around 13:00/13:30, meaning you could be free to then grab lunch with friends or family.

This opportunity is permanent and weekly and for a minimum of 1 year.

2. Mid-Week Evening Session Replenishment Volunteer (19:00-21:00)

We are looking for a duo – 2 people who can work together in moving food between the warehouse and some key venues in South Belfast – mainly our distribution centre at 119 University Street.

You’d be moving food stock, filling the foodbank van, and driving it and emptying the van of food and leaving it in specific places.

You’d have to be very comfortable with heavy lifting and manual handling.

This is a very flexible role, as this task could be performed any evening in the week that suits the 2 of you.

Really suitable for a couple or a family duo e.g. mother and daughter.

This opportunity is permanent and weekly and for a minimum of 1 year.

We are looking to add at least 2 new volunteers to our Front of House team. You would join the existing Tuesday AM team, who meet and greet clients, welcome them, help them pick food and then offer signposting and prayer.

You’ll be friendly and caring, offering a kind and compassionate service to people referred into our services and who need food.

If you think you’ve got what it takes, maybe some past experience of working alongside and supporting people, then we’d love you to apply.
