Give Help

Volunteer

Volunteers are the life blood of foodbanks. Your skills could be just what we need.

Volunteers are the driving force behind foodbanks. There are thousands of volunteers across the UK, helping The Trussell Trust Foodbank Network get emergency food to people in crisis. We want you to enjoy volunteering and there are lots of ways to get involved. Whatever role you choose, you will make a real difference to the life of someone in crisis.

Helping at a Supermarket Collection

Twice a year (usually in July and December), Tesco kindly allow us to collect at the Newtownbreda store in South Belfast, for a weekend. This involves giving out shopping lists to the Tesco shoppers, who are encouraged to get a little extra while doing their shopping and then donate this to our foodbank. This is a great opportunity to build up our stock, and we usually receive donations of 5 or 6 tonnes of food.

As you can imagine this takes a small army of volunteers and a lot of organisation.  So we need all the help we can get.

Warehouse  teams

We need help to weigh, sort and store donated food before it’s taken to the centres for our  clients to select. You could help in this vital work to ensure we have the right food available at all times.

Restock teams

These teams organise the items needed to restock the distribution centres and transport them in the foodbank van as required.

Office teams

There are various tasks depending on what is needed

Helping at a foodbank centre

Meet people when they come for their 1:1 appointment. You will support them to select their food, have an informal chat with them over a cup of tea, to discuss their situation and signpost and complete onward referrals to further support if appropriate and desired.
